Assessment of the pictures of the widow of J. Meurs by M. d’Hondecoeter
J. Meurs may be identical with Jean Meurs (Meures) (1604-1672), director of the Amsterdam Schouwburg. This tends to be confirmed by the fact that Jan Meurs and Jacob van Doreslaer constituted themselves sureties for Jacob Broen, at present arrested for debts, on behalf of the painter Emanuel de Witte, on 27 April 1652. They will wait for the decision of the commissioner for small affairs and then pay Broen's debt to De Witte. In the present inventory, a kerckje by De Witte is recorded (Bredius, Künstler-inventare p. 1832),
